As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Sporkboy Makes Stuff

Post by Sporkboy »

I have been making things and posting them to Discord, but they should be recorded here as well.

Thermal print of an Omega 321 movement made for Rabirnie as he was looking for something for his office.

The printer takes an 8 1/2 inch wide paper and enlarged it to 2 ft wide.

Poorly planned out proof of concept watch pillow. Only 2 seams, but could use a couple more. Stuffed with plastic bags. Dimensions are all wrong, but the concept is solid.

Adventures in Single pass nylon strap making.

I have more material on order and some smaller eyelets. Now I should be able to make comically long straps.

Watch belt.

Why settle for wearing one or two watches at a time?
This would work better with 22mm straps.

Could you 3D-print adapters for the watches that allowed the straps to run perpendicularly from normal (9 o'clock to 3 o'clock)? Then you could just look down and tell the time while wearing it.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I like that idea. Off the top of my head I know one easy way to do it without 3D printing...

Oh, the one I have planned is well beyond that. Maybe MoT over a heavy parka length.

OK, here you go. I made a small loop of nylon webbing. That goes around the springbars. From there, you can skip it onto a standard belt.

I think that this is the way to go for a meetup as it seems more secure than the NATO chain and you can wear a lot more watches this way.

Thank you. When you have a 3D printer it is easy to jump to that for a solution. Sometimes there is an easier way. However, when 3D printing is the only viable way to do something then it can’t be beat.

I have been working on this for a while and getting feedback from the guys on Discord.

3D printed Altoids Tin Springbar Storage Insert.

It holds up to 4 sized springbars with a section to make a sorting tray by gluing down a few springbars in grooves. There is a section that can hold a pair of tweezers and a junky springbar tool.

A small quantity of these may become available in the not too distant future.

If you have a 3D printer then you can print one yourself.

Not watch related but something random that I made.

Help me name this art. I was asked to create a maze made out of circuit boards for the lobby of a new children’s hospital building in which I will be working. It has gone well, but now they want me to name it. Do you guys have any ideas? They must be family friendly and slightly more creative than ‘circuit board maze’. All idea are welcome.
