As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?

Post by Blue »

Since a number of us (including our gracious host) picked up a Codek Spiral using the impossible-to-resist MOT specific promotion code that TheJohnP was able to secure (kudos sir!), I though I'd kick off an appreciation and discussion thread.

My white dial + dark brown leather combination (serial # 015) arrived today. It's odd and it's quirky, with multiple asymmetric elements. I think I'm going to hold onto it for a while and see how I feel about it in a few months. I will say that it's extremely comfortable to wear, and is an ideal size for me.

One oddity that sticks out. The choice of drilled lugs is an odd one and the supplied spring bar ends stick out. Strange.

A couple quick pictures to kick things off.

The ETA 2824 has been modified to be a "no date" and according to Codek, each movement is tested and regulated in 3 positions by a watchmaker. The amplitude and beat error are also evaluated. On a full wind, the timing is expected to be well within -3/+6 sec/day.

-3/+6 is within COSC specs generally, but from my understanding true COSC certification is more than just 3 positions.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

My Codek arrived this afternoon from the left coast, speedy Priority Mail delivery and packed very nicely, and it is a beautiful watch. For the price, it is one of the best watch deals I have ever been privy to. For a few bucks more, I opted for the cordovan Horween strap. Thank you THE JOHN P and MANONTIME for calling our attention to this watch. I usually don't wear this style of watch but design-wise it is unique.

Mine came in today. Chris fulfilled my request for a number ending in 5 or 0 and I got number 45.

As I feared, the strap is much too short, but it is fantastic quality. I have to wear it on the first (last?) hole.

But man oh man...what a looker.

Great choice on the white dial MOT.

I wasn't super happy with the strap so swapped it out for a blue rubber strap I had lying around. Much more comfortable, doesn't suffer from the springbar overhang issue and I'm enjoying the blue+white combo.

I really want to jump in on this, but the 30m water resistance makes me hesitate 😕

30m water resistance should be fine for washing your hands at the sink or getting stuck in a rain shower. But if you plan to submerge this watch in water, then I agree with you that is probably not sufficient. This is probably more a deal for someone that already has a very water-resistant watch in their collection. You might want to opt for something with a screw-down crown instead.

Here's mine on mesh. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I need to shop for XL or XXL leather straps. Any suggestions under $20?

I like Watchgecko's straps - there are several below $20, you may want to ask them about sizes:

Maybe they can be approached to accept a MOT discount code? :)

Why weren’t you “super happy with the strap”?
