Help sizing TokyoFlash Nixie watch band?

Post by kl884347 »

Hi,
I was just gifted a TokyoFlash Nixie watch. The watch band is all metal and I need to size it but it is a bit odd. On the inside of the band I see the arrows indicating the direction that the pins should be removed but on the edge of the band I don't see the pins themselves, just an embedded center section. Is the entire center supposed to come out?

Here is a link to the watch and if you watch the video you can sort of see it.

TIA!

Zooming close in the little hole looks like a ball. Maybe I have to push it in then slide the ink out.

Sounds and looks like a folded-link.

These are folded links. The link is actually two different pieces. Can you add a photo of the back side of the link? There should be a little tab or slot you can push with a small screwdriver to slide the middle part of the link out. There are different types of folded links but this vid should help.

Hm, removed the link "pin" but the bracelet is not coming apart. Tried angling the link to "unhook" it but not coming apart. Will keep working on it.

Here is the pin that I removed. It is not L or U shaped so it isn't clear to me how the links come apart. Feel like the biggest noob.

You can see at the bottom of the picture that the end of the insert has two teeth.

I'm not sure exactly how this one works. But I'm wondering if maybe you need to remove the inserts on two consecutive links. That might create enough wiggle room so that you can fold the links either toward or away from each other like a hinge so that they can unlatch. That's my best guess based on the pictures. Hope you get it. I'll be sitting here thinking positive thoughts. đź‘Ť

Agree try removing two side by side. Sometimes this style of band is very uncooperative due to years of being. It is likely the middle smaller links that will “unhook” by folding the band and then sliding upward.

So FINALLY!!! My wife who is very engineering minded and very determined kept working on it until she got it done. As you guys suggested, we had to take the inserts out of two adjacent inks. Then we had to bend the bracelet inward (like the way the bracelet normally bends, but to an extreme angle) in order to release the thin center metal link on the inside. It doesn't slide to release, it actually pops off to release the links. Once you remove the links you want, you put the main links side by side at an angle and pop the thin inner center link back in place. Then the inserts wedge in against the thin center link to hold it in place. It seems like a very odd design and a royal pain.

Thanks all for the links, tips, and suggestions!

As a side note, nixie tubes are really cool but SO huge.
