Strap recommendations please!

Post by Dub Rubb »

I am looking for the right strap for my AT. The factory black leather strap is great, but feels a little too formal being black. The watch currently sits on a Hadley Roma that I really like, but don't love. Any suggestions/experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, and here are some pictures of the watch in question. And no, NATOs are not an option. Tried them, hate them, yet still keep buying them.

What is the price cap you'd like to stay under?
What is the lug width of the AT?

The watch is really worthy of a decent strap, so I would say $100 as the budget, but it needs to be worth it. Obviously, under budget would be great, and I feel like $50 or so should get me what I need. I am just having trouble with the vision of it all, and would like some info/feedback and what you guys think would look good. Strap width is 20mm, so I should be in the wheelhouse of variety.

My Geckota 50's Vintage diver came on one of their ostrich leather straps.
Very comfortable and supple.

They are around $100 when sold separately, hence my price question.
A few options to chose from:

When the dial is simple or plain, I like to pick a strap with some pattern or texture. When the dial is a little busy, or has enough interesting attributes like the AT, I like to pick a simple strap so as to not detract attention from the dial.

My go-to strap at around $50 is the Rios Springfield, which is made from Shell Cordovan. These can be found on eBay, Panatime or Watch Prince (but wait for a sale), or Gnomon.

Great suggestions so far. I have been very happy with my watch gecko purchases so far, but I am also liking the idea of the less busy strap, and I have heard great things about the Rios straps. Thanks for the suggestions. Luckily, even if a strap I pick doesn't work, at 20mm I can find a home for it!

Andrea made an ostrich leg strap for me and was under $100. $83, as I recall.

And it's the proper length for my spindly wrist.

Just my $0.02 USD as always.

I can confirm the quality of RIOS. Try it if you find one that you like. For the watch, I would like to stay in plain color without contrast stitching. I think it would make the watch pop. How about a burgundy strap?I think the color may match the grey face.

Try Fluco as they are really value for money, and have many choices in color and style.

May I know why you like the HR strap but not love it?

Not sure if its what you are looking for, but fellow member tennesseean_87 looks to be making some very nice straps. Would be a cool way to keep the business in the family if it worked out. Perhaps you two could collaborate on a style...maybe even one with “MoT” etched or stitched in somewhere....lol

Thanks, I agree on the non contrast stitching making the watch shine a little brighter. That is part of the problem with the HR strap, the other lies in the color being a little too reddish for my liking on this watch. It was originally purchased for my SARB065 and looks great on that!

Good call, I have seen his progress both here and the BSHT thread, and would love to rock the AT on a strap made by a member of those communities.

My top picks would be Bulang, Hodinkee, Molequin, Crown & Buckle Black Label, and Bas & Lokes.

What I end up going with more often than not though is custom straps. Rene at EKStraps has made lots of mine.

I always kept my AT on the bracelet, but here's some shots of my Railmaster (Aqua Terra) on a couple different things. The second one is an EKStraps custom piece.

I think if you went for something a little more casual, you would wear it more. Maybe brown calf leather with contrast stitching. Apparently the one in this picture is from Shinola. You might want to consider taking advantage of the current Panatime sale. 30% off with SPRING2019 for another 2 days. Plenty of good options from RIOS1931.

New straps came in today. One with contrasting stitching and one with matching. I am really liking the rios1931, and think once it breaks in a little, it will be a keeper. I also kinda went with a leather color that is going to match my belt and shoes at my upcoming wedding. Not sure which watch yet, but the strap is a perfect match!!(phone camera doesn't capture it though[emoji22])
