As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

$3 Borealis style dive strap

Post by AndyS »

Picked up one of these recently on Ali Express, and while I don't have a real Borealis strap to compare to, this is a great strap for the price.

US $2.89 41%OFF | Rubber Watchbands Bracelet 20mm 22mm Orange Blue Black Women Men Waterproof Soft Silicone Watch Band Strap With Polished Buckle

The strap is nice and long, very flexible, and it seems to be well molded.

I did mod it to install quick change spring bars like I do most of my straps. First one I did this way on a rubber/silicon strap, and it was easier than doing it to this than leather.

I would like to find a cheap black buckle with the wide pin like this, but have only found one more than twice as expensive as the strap.

Pics below. The Nighthawk was just handy, didn't really plan to wear this on that watch, but I actually think it's not that horrible a look.

I have real Borealis straps. I will buy a couple of these and compare for those interested.

I definitely think of these as "Isofrane-style" straps. I remember seeing somewhere that the ones from Borealis and from Toxic are actually identical. They both seem to have good reviews with the exception of complaints about the keepers being too loose. I don't have experience with any of these but the next time I place an order with Cheapest NATO Straps, I plan to get one of their black Isofrane style straps. They are $10 before any discount.
Hopefully I'll remember to post my thoughts here.

Very interested to see the comparison. Wish the AE seller had more colors.

And yeah, I guess Isofrane is the predecessor.

I bet the cheapestnatostraps are just reselling what I bought directly from China. Although they look like they may have brushed buckles, where this one is polished more, so maybe not. The Borealis and Toxic straps look to be from a different mold.
