PUBLISHED : Indiegogo: Franz Rivoira - The Watch Manual
This one is a little different, as it is currently going to be an e-book.
Also not familiar with Franz Rivoira myself, but he writes about horology on Quora (https://www.quora.com/profile/Franz-Rivoira), and this will be his first book.
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the- ... 16205959#/
For just the e-book, Indiegogo price is $10
Regular price will be $16
Additional pricing tiers available if you want things like a thank you note, a book credit, email consultancy, Skype consultancy, etc.
Estimated delivery is June 2020
From the campaign description:
Looking around the watch publishing landscape, I have not found a simple, straightforward manual about watches dedicated to everyone who is not an expert, and would like to become, if not a true expert, at least a more informed reader.
So, the manual I am writing is organized around short, focused chapters made to be quickly readable and easy to understand, using the same no-nonsense language I am using to explain the craft of horology to my readers.
Quick, easy, simple to understand, yet precise. Perfect to get to know about watches and all the world that surrounds them: how to find them, to buy them, to check them, to wear them, to sell them (and get a profit).
The goal is to make it available in soft and hard copy. First in English, and then, translated in other languages.
The Watch Manual will be a thorough primer of horology.
This will be the index, so you could check just how detailed it is going to be.
And full of practical advice that you could use immediately.

1.1 - Measuring time: the beginning

Re: PREORDER: Indiegogo: Franz Rivoira - The Watch Manual
I don’t seem to see mention of online communities in the ToC, but I suppose that could be forgiven. To lump homages with frankens and replicas and then calling the group shady is a bit narrow minded to me. There are a lot of micro brands out there selling sub-homages and I wouldn’t call them shady. Frankens that misrepresent themselves and replicas are absolutely shady as they are often trying to take advantage of uneducated consumers. I am going to take a closer look at this one and it may force me to open an indegogo account.

Found two articles from Quora that Frank answers which touch on the subject of homages.Sporkboy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 6:38 pm I don’t seem to see mention of online communities in the ToC, but I suppose that could be forgiven. Seems he is OK with them, so maybe that was the best chapter to discuss homages as a whole?

Thanks for digging those up for us. It does like this guy has a reasonable outlook on homages and that the chapter title may be a bit misleading.TheJohnP wrote:Found two articles from Quora that Frank answers which touch on the subject of homages.Sporkboy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 6:38 pm I don’t seem to see mention of online communities in the ToC, but I suppose that could be forgiven. With only 27% of goal reached with 12 days to go, I have a feeling this one is not going to make it.

Re: PREORDER: Indiegogo: Franz Rivoira - The Watch Manual
I think it's ok - from his updates he seems to be fairly well progressed, so doubt he would chuck all of that work.
In one of his updates he also mentions that he will be setting up a website from which one can download the book and pay by card or PayPal. Happily, it appears he's intending to publish regardless of the Indiegogo outcome.
For my part, however, this is a book I'd prefer in hard copy. He talks about producing these in the future, so will keep an eye out.

Hey guys. I am the man himself in person.
First of all, thanks for the review!
The answers are YES, the book is ready and will be shipped as soon as the campaign ends and I get the last details about credits to insert, etc.
YES I am considering starting another campaign for a printed version, tentatively priced around 35 USD shipped to your door.
If you back the ebook now, you could claim the printed version at a discount (26 USD).
YES, that chapter was the best one to group these categories together. You have to cause a bit of stir to entice people into reading your views about the matter.
There is a big list of online communities and assorted references in the Section 9.
Anything else just ask. Cheers!

Hello franz_rivo welcome to the forum!
Glad to hear the book will happen and there are plans for a hardback. Once that campaign is ready to launch, please give us the heads up.
I'll allow others to chime in if there are specific questions about the Watch Manual.

Re: PREORDER: Indiegogo: Franz Rivoira - The Watch Manual
Anything you need guys! I have a page on Facebook as well, apart from Quora. Will keep you in the loop.
Some stats: the ebook is 624 pages long, with 185 chapters of which 65 brand profiles. The printed book is going to be a Softbank with 350 gram cover, coated and varnished, and 115 gram coated pages. First estimate is of 450 A5 pages.

Re: UNSUCCESSFUL : Indiegogo: Franz Rivoira - The Watch Manual
Hi guys. Some update for you. While the IGG campaign was funded by one third, the TWM book has been published and is live at the moment in its own website, thewatchmanual.com
I would ask you kindly to modify the title of the discussion from UNSUCCESSFUL to PUBLISHED. This would help me out with SERP. Thanks!

Hi, Franz,
Thanks for the update. I was going to wait for the hard copy, but figured I may need some reading material during lockdown so bought the ebook (edit: just received the download link).
I'll probably get the hard copy as well, so look forward to an update on that.
Cheers
