SUCCESSFUL: Kickstarter: ZK watches - ZK No.2

Post by TheJohnP »

New Swiss made dive watch just launched on Kickstarter from ZK watches (or Z&K from their logo) = Zahnd and Kormann.

This is their second watch project, which they're calling ZK No.2
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/19 ... ic-diver-g

Two models (diver or GMT), lots of colorways, case/bracelet finishes, and numerous upgrades, so if you want to back this one, pay attention.

For the Diver model the early bird price is $462, saving roughly $300
+ $141 to upgrade to a titanium case
+ $101 to upgrade to COSC certification
+ $40 to upgrade to UPS Parcel vs regular mail service
All in with the upgrades = $744

For the GMT model, the early bird price is $552, saving roughly $312
+ $141 to upgrade to a titanium case
+ $101 to upgrade to COSC certification
+ $40 to upgrade to UPS Parcel vs regular mail service
All in with the upgrades = $834

Thrax is right. I love GMTs with diver's bezels ("lazy" GMT second time zone bezels do nothing for me), the price and customization is right, but the logo is way not right (and it's 1-2mm too big, too).

Campaign follow up.

Kickstarter was a success.
You can still preorder the ZK No. 2 through their website - https://timeisyours.ch/en/

But it still directs you back to their kickstarter page and don't see anything about preorder pricing.
Then again, you would've gotten one earlier if you were really interested. :P

Yet another cautionary tale on supporting Kickstarter campaign and that it is a gamble

While this project has been successful, it looks like the creators are demanding more money or -8% Kickstarter fees on the refund.

Between this and the issues I've read about the Meccaniche Veneziane GMT project with the last minute movement switch, does sound like it is best to be cautious when supporting a campaign.

Wow! I wouldn't be so happy with that result either. Kickstarter doesn't offer much protection from incompetent, unprepared, underfunded, or unscrupulous KS campaigners, does it? I pretty much saw it as inevitable that I would eventually like a crowd-funded watch enough to back one but stories like this make me second-guess that thought.

Thankfully, I've only backed one watch project and fingers crossed it has been running smoothly so far.

Agreed.Do your homework.

I've supported only 3 KS watch campaigns so far. 1 delivered a month late but the creator was actively participating in questions and answers and didn't go silent. Watch arrived, however being a quartz the seconds hand never hits markers properly and the strap isn't that great.Overall still satisfied.I only dared backing them as they'd been in business for 10 years so assumed risk was low.

2nd one is suppose to be delivered by June. Communication from creator has been good so far and they say that everything is moving smoothly. Once again, they've had a successful campaign before. Read plenty of reviews on prior project and comments which were favourable with satisfied backers. They've also been in business for a few years so once again assumed risk is low before backing. Let's see if they deliver it in June.

3rd one currently supporting is also another company been in business for 5 years with good feedback on previous campaigns and positive feedback from facebook groups etc.

So yes once again do your homework but be aware you can still lose that money. Success of project means the creator has your cash and can run away with it and there's really nothing you can do about that.It is really a gamble.

on a side note, a non watch campaign i supported did refund me the money when they said they couldn't complete project on time. They were an established factory so risk was close to zero. When they finally completed the project, I bought the product directly at the same super early bird price. All I can say is I was very lucky and the creators were upstanding citizens of the world
