Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Just stumbled onto a user selling bulk lots of vintage straps including some exotics (lizard, pigskin, etc). The lots I looked at appeared to be 16/18/19/22mm not sure if there are focused size lots, but they may be random. The user has a lot of these and has a bunch of sold lots. They appear to be going from 10-$30, but they accept offers. I am thinking of finding a lot I like and offering $15 to see what they do. If anyone wants to probe this seller to find the lowest offer accepted, I am sure that would be helpful to some people here.

Edit:
I just submitted an offer of $10 for a lot that had a number of 19mm and 3/4” bands as I have a vintage watch of that odd size. We will see what happens.
The straps are marked in mm, fractions of an inch or not at all. Some even have a paper tag attached with the size. Anyway, I pulled some equivalencies together and share them below in case you are looking for a vintage strap in these lots. If you see other fractions, let me know and I can update the list. In doing this, it feels like this has been done before...
Watch Strap Inches to mm
5/8 = 15.75mm
11/16 = 17.46mm
3/4 = 19.05mm
7/8 = 22.23mm
More Edit:
Sure enough, I was doing more work than needed. All watchbands.com has a nice chart:

Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
This is a deal for someone....72 vintage ladies watches in an antique wooden case. Listed at €545. But with no bids and one day left the buyer should be open to an offer.

At least one Omega, one Tissot, and Certina, Citizen, Junghans, BWC, Emes, Dugena, Bergana, etc...

Sold for $13.50...should have accepted your offer. I see he has several other lots listed...maybe more inclined to offers now.Sporkboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 2:49 pmOffers of $10 and $15 have been declined.Sporkboy wrote:Just stumbled onto a user selling bulk lots of vintage straps including some exotics (lizard, pigskin, etc). Yeah, I don’t get it. I thought that I had a snipe bid set up. I will try again with some of the other lots.watchpalooza wrote:Sold for $13.50...should have accepted your offer. Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
I am a glutton for punishments I am considering this for the Nelsonic as My boss has the last name of Nelson and it would make a fun gift. 6 vintage digital that are untested for $20. The same user has a lot of watch making books, movements and watches.

Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Very tempting, except I am always wary of "untested" claims. some sellers have adopted the "untested" designation for things they have tested and found not to work. Particularly important for quartz since they can't be easily fixed. For me it generally comes down to trusting the seller. In this case for $20 I would probably take the risk. One check is to see if its a seller with a lot of items listed who consistently deals in lots...someonecwho believably does not test.Sporkboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 5:41 am I am a glutton for punishments I am considering this for the Nelsonic as My boss has the last name of Nelson and it would make a fun gift. 6 vintage digital that are untested for $20. Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Not a Seiko-knowledgeable guy, but this may be a deal. 1960's Seiko Lord Marvel High Beat (5740-8000). Listed for €450, seller appears to be open to offers as he offered a 7% discount to me, bringing it to €419.

Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Here’s the kind of ebay listing I like. Terrible pictures, but I can identify a couple of gems.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 4130573668
There is a 70’s Timex Q next to a decent looking Bulova. The back of the Q may be in good shape. It is really hard to tell.
There is also a goldtone Seiko 5, which doesn’t sound like it runs well. There is a LED watch in gold. Other than that, there may be a few good mod bases. Are there any gems that I missed?
With the quality of the pictures and the watches being untested, I made an offer of $42. I fully expect for this to be declined, but since the pictures are terrible, the risk is fairly high. I came up with this number based on what I thought would be a risk-able amount for the watches in which I was interested. If it is accepted, great, if not then I will track this one to see what it does.
I haven’t made a side offer like this before, so I may be way off. Do you guys think my offer is reasonable or did I make an insultingly low offer?

Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
I think its a fair starting offer for an auction that starts at $9.99, has no reserve, and states twice that the watches are for parts or repair. Of course I am not one who believes there is such a thing as an insulting offer....every offer is a potential sale.
Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
OK, thanks. That is reassuring. If they wanted more money then I guess they could have taken better pictures. I am fine with trying to bid, but it is more of a crap shoot that way.watchpalooza wrote:I think its a fair starting offer for an auction that starts at $9.99, has no reserve, and states twice that the watches are for parts or repair. Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
I haven't been buying much vintage lately, but have bought many in the past.
Fuzzy photo, described as parts/repair, or sometimes condition unknown, don't answer questions directly - assume the worst.
Particularly when looking at other sales from this seller shows that watches are part of his regular business. He knows what he's selling. He has a single watch listed for 9.99, same as starting bid for auction lot.
I would have offered much less if you are eager for it, 11 -15, sometimes they accept or come back with a counter. A lot of time left in auction, but it could easily be a relisting that didnt sell.
This is not the profile of a hot listing, though I didnt deal much with lots, often best to sit tight, see how bidding develops and try to snatch with a minimum or low bid at the end.

Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
Well they didn’t respond to my message so I will try bidding through Gixen. I have been surprised in the past at how low fuzzy picture lots go for, so we will see what happens.
Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
It is a good thing that the seller didn’t go for my offer as I wouldn’t have been able to snag a sweet looking Russian lot if they had. Now it is past $27 with a couple of hours to go, so at least I will know how others see this type of lot.Sporkboy wrote:Well they didn’t respond to my message so I will try bidding through Gixen. Edit: sold for: 70.68, so I was way off, but who knows how good the watches were. Not at all sad at missing out as other treasures are coming my way.
Re: Vintage Watch and Accessory Deals
I'm currently watching, and was just outbid, on these 2. Both from the same seller. Anything about these that throws you vintage experts off? Am I making good choices?
