August 2021 Watch Fast Challenge

Post by AndroidIsAwesome »

Last year Sporkboy had the idea of a watch fast challenge for the entire month of August. It seemed to go well so why not do it again this year!

Link to last year's thread: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1915

What is a watch fast?
As Sporkboy defined quite well, a watch fast is where you try to go a full calendar month wearing the same watch. This gives one a chance to really get to know a watch and allows you to see what you miss in other watches...or what you don't miss. It may provide a sort of WIS clarity that few other experiences can provide. It is as if all of your other watches are gone, and this is all you have for the month.

Here are the rules from last year:
-Strap/bracelet changes are allowed.
-When you wear a watch, it must be your watch fast watch.
-You can't 'try on' another watch until the fast is complete or it counts as a fail.
-You can still do any mods or repairs of other watches as that is a different aspect of the hobby.
- I am adding a new rule: For those who ordered the LWDS watch; if it arrives during the challenge then you may switch and use that as your watch.
- If you are working out/exercising, a fitness tracker/smart watch is allowed for that activity. Furthermore, your watch fast watch can be worn on one wrist, and a fitness tracker on the other.

The goal is to utilize your watch fast watch for everything, but not to the point where you might accidentally destroy it. So feel free to take it off for certain things where this may be the case.

Invitation
If you'd like to join this watch fasting challenge, state your intent and the watch you intend to use. You can change your mind on which watch to use up until the start of the challenge. There are just under two weeks before the challenge starts, so you better start thinking of what you would like to wear. Remember, this is a CHALLENGE so it will not be easy.

Can't decide what to wear? Then post your collection and let us pick for you!

Thanks for picking this up this year. It has been pointed out that the term ‘fast’ is a bit of a misnomer, rather it is an opportunity to really get to know one watch very well.

I accept the challenge and will be wearing a Casio F-91W. It is on stock rubber, but I reserve the right to change straps on it.

As a participant from last year (I made it 21 days!) I agree that it’s more like ‘watch monogamy’ than a watch fast [emoji6]

I know there are a few members on the discord participating in this challenge.

For myself I have decided to go with the Halios fairwind. It was super hard picking one watch from my collection, my Eternas or Monta would have been too easy. The Sinn 556 was a good candidate, same with the Grand Seiko 085. But the halios will make more sense for the stuff I have planned already in August.

I can't do it. I like to change every other day.

Good luck to those who join in.

I'm waiting for the Second Hour Mandala that I backed on Kickstarter to deliver in August, so no challenge for me.

I also must opt out, for religious reasons.

I'm into this.

I've worn the Lunar Pilot for weeks easy, so that wouldn't be very fun. Instead I'll reacquaint myself with the black dial Hammy which I haven't worn in a long time.

Here's my entry. Went with the Railmaster at the suggestion of my wife. This one doesn't get as much love as others, so I actually think it's perfect for the challenge. We'll see how long I last though. I'm already itching to put something else on. Haha

That's a really good choice. It's a great go anywhere, do anything option. And I'm sure it looks awesome on a ton of straps

I'm in! Going with the Christopher Ward Trident. It's probably the easiest to wear continuously in my collection, so it may be a bit of a cop out. On the other hand it's the youngest diver in my collection and I'm hoping this continued stretch of wearing will cement its place in the collection (it's already pretty firmly there).
I've never taken it off the bracelet before either; we'll see if I tire of it enough to try straps.

Going with the Speedmaster. Strap monster, can dress it up and down. Plus having finally gotten my hands on it, I couldn’t imagine putting it in the box for a full month.
