Re: The Leap Year Watch Challenge

Post by Split-Time »

I finally have something in the mail from ebay. About the only thing special about it will be that it is my first watch off ebay other than two that I purchased "buy now" using a coupon. I am still looking for something for a specific purpose, but the price may be an issue. Like Rabirnie , I am chalking this challenge up to familiarization with finding watches on the bay and using gixen (thanks Sporkboy).

The good news/bad news is that I lost a little bit of time going down a rabbit hole after a premoon speedmaster that didn't work out. At least the challenge made me look in some different places.

Win or lose, I have really enjoyed the hunt. Finding watches in the under $30 range, honing search skills, getting great practice with making offers and negotiating price, and learning about things I did not know before. It has been the most watch-seeking fun I have had in a great while. To me, this is the win.

I think that you guys have got the right attitude toward the challenge. It has been a learning experience in getting better at eBay searching. I am glad that people are enjoying it, and it is a good reminder that you don’t need to spend a lot of money on this hobby to enjoy it.

I have been wondering where you have been here. I was expecting more good natured trash talk from you. Anyway, good luck with your hunt. I am sure that you will uncover something special.

I have my entry watch, but out of town currently dealing with a family emergency.

Not sure if I'll be back home by the 1st or not.

May be a little late in submitting my candidate.

Hope that's cool.

I hope that everything is OK with your family. That stuff always comes first as this watch stuff is silly in comparison. As long as you do your best to get it in during the first half of the month then you will be fine. Though I am sure that can be extended if required for a family emergency.

That shouldn’t even be a question. Family first and I will be thinking about you.

Well, I received a package today but I’m sort of afraid, or should I say ashamed, to open it  . This has been an experience, that for sure!

Thanks all.
One of the many reasons I love this place.

Just didn't want anyone wondering where I was when submissions start.

Because I'm going to CRUSH it!

The package I received was approximately the size of a brick, wrapped in brown paper, tied with a string and had a partially intact wax seal. Absolutely an experience for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised.
