As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

New release would be probably too much, but there's a new chronograph from FOD. Posted it in HUISABH, looks like make sense to post also in this thread.
I think it's a great deal for mechanical chronograph with lume and flieger wibe.
Use code fod.
Final price is $149 on leather strap, $179 on bracelet.

Kingsbury Watch just released their new field watch the MS3 Battalion.

Some spec highlights:

- 39mm Stainless Steel Case
- Seiko NH35 Automatic Movement
- Sapphire Crystal
- SuperLuminova Hands/Hour Markings
- 200M Water Resistance

Only $179! I just purchased the nylon strap model, I own a few Kingsbury watches and the value is amazing (so is their customer service).

I don't know anything about the Kingsbury brand, but the watch does look very nice, and the specs and price are reasonable.

For what it's worth, though, I will point out that the case on this is a bog standard off-the-shelf case that houses numerous pilot style watches that you can buy directly from China through numerous outlets. If you Google Image Search "San Martin Pilot Watch" or "Steeldive Pilot Watch" or "Addies Pilot Watch," to name a few, you'll see what I'm talking about: same look, same dimensions, same specs (right down to the 200M water resistance) . . . in short, same case. Also the same movement, crystal and, from what I can tell, same lume. I have one of those San Martin Pilot watches, BTW, mine with a Flieger Type B dial, and it's great. They probably all come out of the same factory.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, and I'm not casting shade. This could easily be a worthwhile purchase. Just pointing out my observations, especially for anyone that might be under the impression that the Kingsbury offers a more custom design than it actually does.

As for the dial and hands, I'm guessing that those are of Kingsbury's own design, as are the case back markings.

This is completely out of my usual scope of interest, but might be attractive to Pokemon / Pikachu fans.
Usual battery life of 10 years, a water resistance of 10 bar and the ability to survive a fall of 10 metres.

"Casio’s Pikachu Baby-G is the perfect watch for Pokémon trainers.
...
Available in Japan from 5 February, the BA-110PKC model, as it’s called, will retail for 19,800 yen (US$190.80) wherever Baby-G watches are sold."

I personally don't care much about Popeye, but will consider blue marine theme watch.

Got the email this morning. I voted on the blue Popeye dial. I'm a sucker for blue so I really had no choice. I like the spinach can for a seconds hand.

Usually I don't sharing smartwatch info. I owned a couple of Pebbles, and this is as far as I'm willing to use smartwatch currently.
However, this Fossil attracted my attention, since you can use it as a smartwatch AND as a phone / texting/ Google assistant device without having the phone on you.
Caveats: you should be Verizon customer in the US, pay extra $10 a month, have an Android cellphone, pay about $300 for the watch, and charge the beast daily.
3 ATM WR.
The technology and hardware are around for a while. The smartwatch uses number sharing with your phone, and LTE data from Verizon.

I am tempted to get one to each of my family members, and make it mandatory to lock their phones at least for dinner time.

Be proud. You were an enabler today.

I did not get the Grand Reserve. Got the Lip Watch Himalaya 40mm Automatic 671586 white dial, which appears to be the older model. I could not tell any difference between it and the Grand Reserve in anything I was reading other than the 821A movement. TimeByMe had it for $445, and a 20% discount code, bringing it down to $356 shipped.

I'm hoping it looks as good as the Grand Reserve white dial in this YouTube video, as movements don't matter to me as long as the watch keeps decent time:
That is satisfying. Not going to lie.

I think the only difference is the Grand Reserve uses the Miyota 8315, which has a longer power reserve.
After a little more research,

TimeByMe, where I bought it, has the movement listed as 821A for the Himalaya 671586
https://www.timebyme.com/us/lip-man-wat ... matic.html

Lip's website says 8315 for the 671586
https://www.lip.fr/fr/554-himalaya-40-mm-mecanique.html

Another vendor says the crystal is mineral, not sapphire (unlike the previous 2), with an 8315 movement (model number in the URL)
https://conteenium.com/product/lip-hima ... al-671586/

So who knows what I'll be getting? lol

Maybe Lip decided to create the Grande Reserve model after they had already started putting the 8315 in the 671586. So they could charge a little more for it?
I had seen that caliber in a Laco as an upgrade (movement Laco 31).

At Citizen they seem to want to respond to the success of the NH35. There is a new basic Miyota, the 8300, with stop seconds, manual winding, and no less than 60 hours of power reserve.

Image

By the looks of it, it is compatible with the 8200, so if you have a watch you like with this caliber, and would like to upgrade its performance, you could do so. I also see in the manufacturer's photo that it would be better decorated than the usual Miyota 8200, with blued screws (something very rare to see in a Japanese caliber), and "cótes" or stripes on the bridges. Although it looks like it's worth more than the NH35, the economy range is going to get entertaining soon....

Zelos watches is releasing a new batch of 40mm Swordfish divers, which originally were launched last July. A few new colorways will be added. I picked one up before and this is a distinctive, high-quality but affordable diver. Good specs, and they will sell out fast.

Launch time is Thursday, Jan 28th at 2300 Singapore time. For those in the U.S. that's Thurs at 10am Eastern.

The blue meteorite dial looks interesting:

Gotta mention the Tantalum version. Never heard of this, but it sounds pretty awesome:
Tantalum is a rare and dense metal commonly used in capacitors or medical applications. It's extremely corrosion resistant and hypoallergenic, with a understated blueish grey hue. Tantalum is rarely used in timepieces and usually priced at a huge premium over steel due to the cost of raw material and the difficulty in machining.

On the wrist, tantalum feels similar to gold in density. The Swordfish 40 (head only) in Tantalum weighs 125g compared to 78g in 316L SS.

It costs $1500 and there are 5 available.

EDIT: You can get a $13,000 Seamaster made partly of Tantalum. Review here: https://www.fratellowatches.com/omega-s ... alum/#gref
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I was hoping he would do the blue swirl dial in the 40mm that he did in the 42 TI swordfish, but it doesn't look like its in the cards. It looks fantastic in pictures.

For anyone on the fence, I have the green 40mm swordfish and its excellent.

I SHOULD HAVE mentioned before...the email Zelos sent today also had this little tidbit:

"For lovers of bronze, we will be launching a bronze SF40 in 1-2 weeks time so do stay tuned!"

So, if you'd like one in bronze, you may want to wait! (then again...) ;)
