Ideas for a blue faced daily beater?

Post by konax »

Hi guys and gals, could you please help me find a watch for daily wear with these features?

- blue dial
- 38-41mm size
- steel case, on bracelet
- casual/field/sporty look
- arabic indices or sticks/dots or some combination of both, need to have numerals
- time only or time&date, no chronographs etc.
- no rotating bezel of any kind, external or internal
- not the classic pilot design (b-uhr and the type)
- can be quartz or automatic
- would like to keep it under $600 (deals are always welcome ;))

So far I'm clueless. There is one Hamilton Khaki with a blue dial, but the blue looks quite muted.
Here's a mashup of few watches I like, obviously out of my budget:

You got one of my favorites, but missed the other. $600 is tough, but you can get a quartz AT for under $1k.

My other favorite, but way over budget.

There are a lot of Hamilton options. Like you, I thought of Khaki mechanical (or quartz) right off the bat. There are also Jazzmaster and navy pioneer options.

Anything above $150 is no longer in beater territory for me, so here is a suggestion from me. The Waterbury line features stainless steel cases, and Timex has also been the beater of choice for millions since 1949.

Cool ideas, thanks guys. Needs to have some arabic numerals, so the Longines Conquest is the most tempting so far. I've checked the larger 41mm model at an AD and the case felt quite bulky. Maybe the 39 wears better.
I used the word "beater" just as an everyday watch, sort of grab and go thing, not that I'm literally gonna bang it on the walls and not care about it.

I love the blue Hamilton Khaki Navy, but the blue in the pictures does not turn up in real life. In actuality, the blue is more slate blue than royal blue, so the color doesn't really pop.

And I don't see how you can get it under $600 these days (unless used, perhaps). (Actually, I did get mine for a lot less than that price, but it took a fortuitous alignment of the planets and a 30% off Amazon coupon to make it happen.)

Another Citizen. This one is titanium, Eco-Drive, and a silly millimeter too big.

Certina DS. Only one Arabic numeral though, so not sure it counts! Chronometer spec quartz and below budget.
