You say "eether," I say "eyether"

Post by The Sultan of SoWhat »

Taking a long look at a MIDO Multifort the other day, I started to wonder how people pronounce the name. Do you say "Mee-do" or "My-do"?

Other names immediately came to mind. I'm sure everyone says "Al-pee-na" and not "Al-pye-na," or am I wrong?

How about Laco? Do you Anglicize it as "Lay-co"? Or stick with the Germanic "Lah-co"?

Raymond Weil is a conundrum. To anglicize it as "RAY-mond While" seems wrong to me. I do a fractured French: "Ray-MOND Vay." But, then again, I've never had the temerity to set a foot inside France.

And Wenger to me is "Ven-ger."

I await with interest your pronunciation guides for these and other brands.

My-do
Al-pee-na
Lay-co
Ray-mond Way-ill (I know this is wrong)

Two others: I also can't stop from saying "Long-ines" in my head even though I know it's like "Lon-jean." And the other day I was wearing my Max Bill and I stumbled over Junghans - "Jung-hands" - when a waiter asked about it. He said like "Yung-hans" which I suppose is more right.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I'll never pronounce it as O-mee-guh the way I hear some folks doing in YouTube videos. I just do regular old omega

This. Mido is a long E and O, so might be “Mee-doe”
