As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Casio Edifice on a 22mm Froskemann elastic strap. Wearing these straps a lot this week for my upcoming review of the Froskemann offerings.

This Timex blackout Ironman T5K793 arrived today and I was so excited that I took these pics before I even changed the date/time. But first a little background.

G-Shock reverse LCDs are a non-starter for me: I can't read them very well* (except for the GD-350 but I can't carry that off). Every time I saw this Timex somewhere I was drawn to it, and I remembered Rocat saying that Timex does reverse LCD right. Add to that, I own a sporty Ironman watch with this module and I freaking love it. But when I tried wearing it daily on a trip, recently, its sportiness was just too much.

So this popped up for $25 at Amazon Warehouse (it's been posted here lower) and I finally pulled the trigger.

The display works for me -- I can read it without effort. Some angles aren't as good as on my standard display, of course, but I don't notice this as I wear it. Next, it looks good -- I think I can wear this daily while traveling and feel like I'm doing my bit. Other things I like, but also apply to other Timex digitals: the lume features are awesome -- activate the lume, and it stays on as long as you're pressing pushers; the crystal is acrylic -- I just figure that there's less chance of it shattering; the pushers don't have guards -- this used to be a gripe of mine until I realized that w/o guards it can be operated while wearing gloves.

Okay, now for the best thing. I was able to modify Sporkboy's G-Shock nato adapters to fit this Timex. So cool. Sporkboy, you are awesome.

Update: the adapter broke, and I can see why. First, it broke where I had removed some of the reinforcing structure, lol. Next, the adapter was free to swivel a little on the springbar, and it stopped not on the little shelf that should rest against the watch back but where the adapter arms rest against the lugs. So the lugs were applying much more force on the adapter arms than they experienced on my G-Shock square.

I'm actually glad I've finally been able to do my job as an adapter tester :-)

* Edit to add: The main trouble I have with the reverse Gs I've seen is due to my old eyes -- everything close up is a little harder to make out w/o reading glasses (I'm almost 50). Also, I have yet to try any of their STN displays. This Timex display is larger, and I think it has a little less glare when compared to my reverse atomic square.
