As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Haven't posted an SOTC in awhile so I thought why not. The first pic is from October of 2019, second it October of 2020 and bottom is most recent. As you can see there was a rather large expansion from 2019 to 2020. I've gotten more selective in my purchases.

Finally whittled the collection down to 9. Not pictured are a couple of cheap Casio digital which are for yard work. I’ve managed to cut my dive watches down to just 3. My latest was the Seiko white dial chronograph.

Not sure. Nothing is on my radar for now. I’ve been concentrating more on my other hobby (shooting) since retiring.

I promised [mention]Stretch44[/mention] a SOTC once the Kurono Toki arrived, so here we go.

Background: Had a Mickey Mouse (probably Timex) growing up and then a few Fossils and a Casio through high school, college, and the start of my professional career. About a decade ago, changed jobs and needed to overhaul my closet. Along with that, I started getting into watches. Wound up getting a Maratac, a couple of Orients, a couple of Seikos, and a few other randos over the next year or so:
IMG_9802.JPG
After about a five year hiatus from buying watches, a few years back I got back into it and bought and sold probably about 20 over the next year, reaching a high count of 23 at the peak. Highlights included an Alpinist, a Smiths cushion case, Longines Hydroconquest, and a Hamilton Jazzmaster, Skymaster, IntraMatic chrono, and Navy Pioneer. Here's a pic that shows a lot of what I brought in during that time:
FullSizeRender (1).jpg
About two years ago, I found myself beginning to want to consolidate into fewer, higher-end watches, and the current SOTC reflects that. Here it is:
IMG_6411.jpg
In order of acquisition:

From first phase:

* Timex Weekender
* Vostok Amphibia "Zissou"
* Orient Mako I

From second phase:

* Filson x Shinola Mackinaw Field
* Tudor Black Bay 36
* Christopher Ward C65 Vintage Diver
* Mido Patrimony

From consolidation phase:

* Timex x DDC (not really a part of the consolidation, just like Draplin's stuff :) )
* Omega Aqua Terra "Goodplanet" 231.92.39.21.04.001
* Casioak (not pictured)
* JLC Reverso 250.8.08
* Longines Heritage Sector L2.828.4.73.0
* Timex Marlin (Nordstrom Rack deal)
* Kurono Tokyo Anniversary "Toki"

Obviously I have a heavy lean toward vintage-inspired modern watches. I'm pretty happy with where things are at right now. Still a few watches of interest, but most of them are beyond my current budget capabilities. I'll probably have one slot that kind of rotates through various micro-brands/lower-tier major brands that I want to try out, but hopefully everything else stays pretty set for a while now.

Wonderful collection, [mention]cheddar[/mention]! I love the AT, JLC, Tudor, Kurono, and Mido. I'd love to get my hands on a Marlin but after seeing people pick them up for $20, I can't get myself to pay much more.

Your progression kind of sounds like mine. My collection exploded and became unmanageable; I was buying watches left and right. I've slowed down the purchases a lot and am much more selective in the process. There are several watches that I want, but just can't spend the money right now. Over the next few years I'll probably buy a few more of the higher end watches I want.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for asking! Obviously I’m a big fan of your collection, as well…and I think we may share one of those “one day” watches (the GO PanomaticLunar)?[emoji1786]

I have a mental block with that one right now. The crown is a cheap replacement (thanks garbage service center) with the brass showing through the plating. I will enjoy it way more once I get an original crown put back on it, but that will probably have to wait till the middle of the year or so.

Impressive collection nonetheless. The strap / bracelet game is also strong.

Thank you! They're all on my first or second favorite strap for each one. I really discovered my love of croc last year, lol.

Post your current collection! - SOTC Thread

Post by recapt »

A few years back I started doing an official @recapt SOTC "team photo" each January. I just managed to fit this one in before the end of the month, and had to retroactively exclude any watches that I acquired month since my intention is to document where things stand on Jan 1st of each year.

So with that said, here's my SOTC for Jan 2022...

Image

From left-to-right, top-to-bottom

1. Yema Superman Heritage GMT [Acquired Jan 2020]
2. Oris Divers Sixty-Five [Acquired May 2018]
3. Zodiac Super Sea Wolf ZO9204 [Acquired Dec 2020]
4. Doxa Sub 300, 50th Anniversary LE [Acquired Mar 2021]
5. Tudor Black Bay 58 [Acquired Oct 2021]
6. Zodiac Aerospace GMT 752-934B [Acquired Dec 2021]
7. Seiko SKX013 [Acquired May 2018]
8. Sinn 856 UTC [Acquired Jan 2021]
9. Wolbrook Skindiver World Time Professional [Acquired Feb 2020]

Only 5 watches remain from last year's pic. Here a link to all of my past SOTCs if you'd like to see those too:
