New Tudor Black Bay
New Tudor Black Bay
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this.

The weird strap ends are part of the bezel locking mechanism, so proprietary straps? And it’s 42mm. Not going on my list, but what do you guys think? Retail is $4k.

Things I don't care for:
- Rotating bezel
- Snowflake hands
- Proprietary/integrated lugs
- Watches over $1k
But I realize I am not the target consumer for this one.
Just felt like chipping into the conversation.

Re: New Tudor Black Bay
The proportions look awkward to me...really long but narrow. Strap ends only add to this effect. Not for me.

It's so bad it's amazing.

I’m not exactly sure who this watch is for. I’m dead in the middle of their target audience, and they really missed the mark getting a sale from me.TheJohnP wrote:Things I don't care for:

It looks a lot better in "real" pics. I kind of dig it, but then again I've always had a thing for the unusual.

This would likely look a little better on a wrist.ManOnTime wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 9:36 am It looks a lot better in "real" pics. I kind of dig it, but then again I've always had a thing for the unusual.

Re: New Tudor Black Bay
I get that going into the archives and pulling obscure designs to either re-issue or gather inspiration from is something that legacy brands do. In this case, the watch in question was a prototype. At the time it didn’t make sense to release the watch. I wonder what it is that makes this the right time for the watch. Nostalgia for the designers of the 1960’s? Somebody dreamt this up, got a prototype made and then it got shelved. Fulfilling a dream of a retired designer is romantic, but I am not sure that is compelling enough for this watch.
The big feature is definitely that of a tool watch, but since modern day divers don’t rely on a bezel not moving then I just don’t get it from that angle.
A conversation piece I suppose. It just doesn’t do it for me, not that I am in the market for such a watch anyway.

Link to the watch on Tudor's site. I was hoping to find the lug to lug measurement there or in a press article but I had no so luck. I'm guessing it has to be 54mm or more. Not really a fan of this watch thus far. However, if I can ignore that rest of the case, I think I like the use of a stainless steel 12 hour bezel.

It's a weird angle, but the wrist shot in the article MoT posted makes it look really big:yinzburgher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2019 10:02 am https://www.tudorwatch.com/watches/blac ... 70150-0001

I wish that watch were 38mm?

I'm happy they are using two bezel locks because one would not be enough to secure the bezel!

Hodinkee takes a closer hands-on look at the "commando" prototype from the 1960s served as inspiration for Tudor's P01.
