Re: Smart Assistants
For us it started with Kinnect on xbox...the camera was ‘always-on” so we turned it around. Alexa, Siri...and soon your refrigerator, TV and toaster...and with companies like FB, Google, credit bureaus and even insurance companies buying up all possible data to use for predictive analytics nd deep learning applications, you never know where or how your “data” will be used. Regulation is very slow to follow technology.AndroidIsAwesome wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:06 pmYes. I definitely have up on privacy long ago haha.FTE wrote:IoT = end of privacy

(Online) privacy ended the first time any of us logged on anywhere.

Re: Smart Assistants
True on both counts. I use a VPN, anonymous surfing, non-tracking search engine, location spoofing, etc. Still, it often comes down to convenience vs privacy, and that becomes much more difficult to balance with more and more devices, services and data being integrated into daily life.

Re: Smart Assistants
To be honest, Google Assistant kind of creeps me out as if she is really an extension of Big Brother or some other nefarious machine.

I used these. I have one in the house and one out at my pole barn for turning on the pole barn lights on / off. You can use the switch, the Leviton App or Alexa. They work great for me.
