SUCCESSFUL: Kickstarter: Kingsbury Watch Co - Dark Water 300

Re: Preorder: Kickstarter: Kingsbury Watch Co - Dark Water 300
I have backed this and admit Kickstarter has proved a mixed place to purchase. Sold on my Liv watches and sent another one back as build was awful. I just have a good feeling about this one as they clearly have a track record and the bezel is great. Personally I like my divers chunky so just hope it has some heft....will look great on mesh...

I guess the whole pricing of watches will always be a massive debate. I would assume case etc. Is standard and the bespoke effort goes into the dial and bezel. No clue on if it is made in Canada or Asia ... look at the price grey market watches go for in the US. With mass produced movements I would guess these are probably just over trade initiallybaldrick wrote:I keep coming back to this. I've backed it but I can't help think I'm missing something. The price just seems too low, but these guys appear to have run a couple of successful campaigns already, so should know what they are doing.
I can't make the numbers add up, so I'm worried the end product will be junk. (Ok, it's not a vast amount of cash if it is junk, but I'd rather not bother.)
Am I missing something or has my frame of reference just been skewed by other brands' pricing?

Yep, the mesh looks ace. Even my wife, who generally rolls her eyes at anything watch-related, deigned to comment that the watch on mesh was "nice" (seriously, this is major praise).pesman wrote:I have backed this and admit Kickstarter has proved a mixed place to purchase. Are you going for blue or black?

Re: Preorder: Kickstarter: Kingsbury Watch Co - Dark Water 300
I asked a couple of times for actual photos but was just ignored.
All the photos either looked like renders or heavily Photoshop to me.
Since I was not feeling too comfortable with that, I withdrew my pledge.
But, I guess, with their track record, they should be able to at least deliver the watch?

I thought the same (maybe not photoshopped to change anything, but certainly with added filters) but they added some additional shots later as well as a couple of videos.quincas wrote:I asked a couple of times for actual photos but was just ignored.

Nowhere near as many or as detailed as I would have liked, but at least one or two "raw" pictures. Enough to help me decide to stick with the black over the blue, anyway.
They really should have taken more photos/videos before sending the prototypes out for review. Hopefully lessons learned.

One thing I do not see is whether the crystal is AR-coated.
Re: Preorder: Kickstarter: Kingsbury Watch Co - Dark Water 300
What irked me was the obvious lack of transparency.baldrick wrote:

It is very favorable if the watches were out for review - that indicated to backers that they had watches.
What I cannot understand is why they cannot admit that they don’t have the watches on hand for more photographs. Some other backers had the same request as I - raw photos. They too, were ignored.
Nowadays renders are so good that they look like real photos. You cannot blame my skepticism.

Sod's law. This watch has been sent out and will be delivered to me next week. Or it would be, if only I hadn't gone on holiday today. Grr.
Will post some pics/impressions (if nobody else does in the interim) first week of August.

Mine is caught in customs, but should arrive either tomorrow or early next week.baldrick wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2019 12:11 pm Sod's law. This watch has been sent out and will be delivered to me next week. Or it would be, if only I hadn't gone on holiday today. Grr.

Nice AquaRacer......next.
Seriously though, just seeing a lot of really good replica makers turn their factories on for Kickstarter watches with no real imagination. Not judging, but would like to see a little more than:
Omega dial
Tag AquaRacer case and bezel
Invicta sword handset
Makes me really appreciate what Zelos has done breaking new ground with design. I don't love everything they do......but I love a lot.

Funnily enough, I guess one of the things that drew me to this was the mix of Aquaracer and SMP. Both watches I have tried on and liked but can't justify buying (e.g. too similar to my current watches to justify the spend).CVP33 wrote:Nice AquaRacer......next.

For USD 200, it's worth a punt. I'm expecting junk but hope to be pleasantly surprised. If anything, it will hopefully be a good knock-about/holiday watch.
