Amateur Strap Making Progress

Post by tennesseean_87 »

After mentioning that I used the latest eBay coupon to grab strap hardware, I was instructed to post here. Here are some of the straps I’ve made. I’m really still learning and I seem to manage to botch some detail or other on every strap I make. But I keep making more!

Edge finishing on the curry suede might not work well. I also tried a slightly different stitching technique, and it shows. Shark skin will be the next I finish.

Between the straps and the mods, you've got some pretty damn good DIY credentials here. Well done! Thanks for posting and keep updating this thread if you make more.

Sorry if my request sounded dictatorial -- I just wanted to hear more about what you're doing with straps. I've been getting more into straps myself.

I'm impressed. When my work slows down I want to try my hand at the same thing, when I find a leather source.
Just my $0.02 USD as always.

Ha. I was happy to oblige.

I hope to some day get good enough to recoup some of the material/tool costs.

I appreciate any constructive feedback, no matter how harsh. For instance, the white lizard strap is just ugly.

Is the white stitching a preference or just what you have in supply?
I know I tend to prefer matching stitch colors where possible, unless I'm looking for a contrast color that compliments something on the watch itself.

Preference. I like the contrast. I also have black, brown, and blue. I plan on matching for more formal straps, like black thread on black lizard.

More improvement, but still a lot more needed.
