Haha! Nope, no Denny's down here. Although I did try it when I was in the states last year.yinzburgher wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 5:05 pmVery nice! I'm not sure if you have Denny's Down Under but the phrase "My Hammy" makes me think of a menu item they used to have.

Re: WRUW
This gently used Bulova hand cranker just arrived in the mail today so I’ve swapped out my Combat 6 to enjoy it for the remainder of the evening.

Evening switch.
Competition, produced by Benrus starting in the late '50s. This one has an exhibition case back showing off the UTC 29 (Seiko 66B) hand cranker. Lovely winding action and equally lovely ticking noises.
I was lucky enough to buy this one about a year ago in the original plastic case with the original warranty/information card. These are generally found on eBay and such quite beat up, but I don't think this one was worn much at all. The only mark on it is an age spot on the dial.
In it's case:

1) That watch band on the Seiko made by our own member tennesseean_87 is awesome!!!
2) This watch is a really nice find. Solid made vintage watch in really fantastic condition. It looks like the Qualco version of the UTC 29 / Seiko 66B (that’s a Qualco logo and model number), which is a workhorse and was used in the Seiko Champion as well as other Benrus models (e.g., Belforte, Sovereign). It also means the watch more likely dates from the early 60’s. Benrus registered the trademark “Competition” in 1959, but Benrus’ Qualco trademark was filed under their subsidiary Belforte Watch Co on Oct 1, 1962.
Also interesting is that in the 60’s they released several watches with automatic movements. The “Competition II” was an automatic version of your watch with a SS caseback. They continued to produce the manual wind version with exhibition back, but changed the dial to read “Competition I” to distinguish from the auto model. The fact that yours lacks the designation of I or II on the dial seems to corroborate that it is likely one of the ealier ones...perhaps between ‘62 to ‘64.
One more note, Benrus is famous for standardizing the single case system, which they copied from Wyler. They introduced it in 1959 and then in 1964 won a military contract with the design, after which everyone copied it. Basically it had no caseback, a split stem and was sealed by a crystal with sealing ring. Yours looks like it may be a variation of this design, but with a back crystal. Have you had it apart? Very cool!
Re: WRUW
Thanks for the info!
No, I haven't had it apart, I don't dare to for fear of ruining it. My skills are ok at best, but I'd be too nervous working on this.

Re: WRUW
Think I've posted this one before, but its one of my favorite dive watches, a massive (for the period) 39mm 1960's Buler, monocoque cased with automatic Baumgartner 158 pin pallet movement.

That case back is great!
30ATM in the '60s impressive. I think we have the monocoque case to thank for that.

Re: WRUW
Yes, pretty sure! When I had it apart to clean and replace the broken crystal it came with I noticed the case was almost 2mm thick. Its a beast. What's cool is the design on the back is embossed (raised), not engraved or etched.

DA45 #164. It’s crazy how limited the production numbers are at Damasko. They’re basically all LE models.
