Looking for a watch roll or case

Post by vta_watch »

I'll be doing some traveling this summer, and I'd like to take a few extra watches along. Does anyone have a watch roll or travel case that they're particularly fond of, and would recommend?

I just picked this one up from Barton very recently but I've already travelled with it twice. I love it! It goes for $40 plus shipping but Barton frequently has discount codes. Reviews on the site are really good. I was worried it wouldn't look quite as good as the pictures but it definitely seems high-quality in person too. I think one or two of the pockets are slightly smaller than the others but I have a Seiko Turtle and a Citizen NB0070 which are both in the 44-45mm range and they both fit. If I remember I'll snap a picture of it tomorrow but here are some from the site. Barton straps are a great value but I still think of them as "budget" straps. But this watch roll really seems a step above their straps in quality. I've only had it a few weeks so I can't honestly speak to how it will hold up but I have high hopes.

This Songmics 8-slot hard-sided zip case has worked very well for me. About $19 from Amazon.

I have one similar to yinzburgher, but slightly less quality from the looks of it. Though it does have six slots instead of five.
Also about 1/2 the cost.
I picked mine up from Amazon for about $21.

I went with the Watch Pod because I felt it would be a little more protective than a roll. Really happy with it.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! That Barton looks like it might be just the thing.

OK, not the best picture but you'll get the idea. From left to right the Seiko is 38 or 39 the red Zodiac is 39, the Citizen in the middle is 44 or 45, the Turtle is 44 and the Bulova is 40. The little Hamilton at the bottom is 36mm. That big Citizen is actually 49mm with the crown guard and chunky as hell but it fits fine in every slot except the one with the Turtle. I could have stuffed it in there but didn't want to do any harm. I could make a few jokes here but I remember MoT saying "keep it PG-13." And there's more than enough material to fold over. Anyway, let me know if you have any questions and I'll keep an eye out for any discounts.

Better for G-Shocks (and others) which don't lie flat. Seems like it would reduce metal-on-metal contact for watches on bracelets, too.

It looks like it might float which would be cool, but OTOH it looks like it would melt if exposed to high temps. (I don't always think like this -- blame the espresso.)

I don't think it would melt, or at least it would have to be VERY hot -- like more than Texas inside a car hot -- for it to melt. There is actually no plastic on the outside of the case (except maybe the zipper? hard to tell). And I would not be surprised if the inside is actually just like very very stiff cardboard or something similar -- it's super light and kind of has a "hollow" feel.

Thanks for the photo. I won't be taking anything bigger than the Turtle (my own SRP775, plus a Mako II, a Citizen BN0151 and BN0150, and a Bulova 96B231, probably) so everything should fit. They'll all be on MN straps, too, so that will keep the bulk down.

I love Pelican cases. A bit much for what I need this trip, but if I were doing anything more rugged than driving the Interstate to Oklahoma, I'd be all over that. :-)

Me, too! I have relied on Pelican cases for years...funny I only learned last year that they had a whole line of travel luggage: https://www.pelican.com/us/en/products/travel/luggage
