Re: Name a movie that you recently enjoyed
I'll tell what's not a great movie, Tenet.
What a hot mess of trying to follow along. Maybe it's because I'm uneducated or something. I mean I have two degree's but I guess Nolan fan's must have three degrees or are members of Mensa. It literally made my head hurt trying to follow along. As soon as I heard the characters talking through masks all I could think of Bane and how Nolan caught crap for making a characters dialogue impossible to understand. I honestly had to have subtitles on through pretty much the whole movie. The plot was good but obviously Nolan is a Graduate of the Rube Goldberg school of film making.
Spoiler, There's a scene a the beginning where bad guys take over a large Opera house. Again, Can we say Bane and a Football Stadium. Come on Nolan do something original! Running scenes in reverse, not original. Benny Hill did that for years!
Benny Hill! Now that's entertainment!
I'm done with Nolan films. At least I didn't spend $20 bucks to stream it. I picked it up at a Redbox kiosk for $2.10.
The other movie I watched last night was Fatman with Mel Gibson. At least that one had some dark humor and it was complicated. It was actually pretty good.

Shaft from 2019 was pretty entertaining. There was a ton of good one liners and action.

It's not Christmas unless I watch this one. And remember, you'll shoot your eye out kid!
And my favorite, " Frah Geeh Lay. It must be Italian."

Just watched Soul with my wife. Pixar usually does a great job, but I really really enjoyed this one. Great message and I recommend to anyone. I'll definitely be watching again.

We also watched Jingle Jangle on Netflix which we all really enjoyed.

It's Christmas break and the kids are doing their thing with their gaming systems and the wife is watching a crap ton of House Hunters of which I have no interest in, because I'm a dude. So I spent the evening watching a B-Grade Movie called Kill Command. It was entertaining for a sci-fi action flick.
Re: Name a movie that you recently enjoyed
I think I need to watch this one again for some laughs. I hear it was crazy back then to see it in the theater. I don't think it'd be the same now though.
Has anyone here watched it in the theaters? That's one thing I have never done. At my age I should be ashamed that I have never done it.
When my older sister would go see it (she saw it several times) she'd take a rain jacket, toast, a big bag of rice, and a squirt gun every time. She always took a huge purse with her when she went. She did tell me back then they'd have to sneak all that stuff in.
A friend of mine worked at a Theater in the late 70's and early 80's in town. He said after the midnight showing it'd be an utter mess with toast, rice, water, and whatever else the customers would sneak in.

A few weekends ago I introduced my two sons, 10 and 7, to Lord of the Rings. Happy to report they loved them and we finished the trilogy tonight.
Now on to season 2 of the Mandalorian.

Last night I watched "We still kill the old way". I've seen it before and it's good for a laugh. I am going to re-watch the sequel "We still steal the old way" in a few minutes. I've seen it before as well and thought it was entertaining as well.
Re: Name a movie that you recently enjoyed
Just rewatched this and fell in love all over again.
Stranger Things meets Edgar Wright? Not sure if that's accurate since Wright wasn't even involved in this.
Don't look it up. Don't read about it. This is one of the most entertaining, tightly directed, well choreographed, and just excellent movies ever. Not exaggerating. Love the wiley crew of kids pretending they're badasses against the real alien threat. Love the scifi aspect. Love that even though its an alien invasion, its so localized and not a world-ending event. Love the social commentary on race and class. Love everything about it.
I'm not kidding. Theres lots of movies I truly love. But this is a movie you can pop into the bluray player literally any time, enjoy the hell out of with literally anyone at your side and leave it feeling better than you did before you sat down.
Only caveats are that it includes bad language, drugs, and gore. But you'll be okay with it.

Rewatched this one, which I believe was criminally underrated on release.
A superhero movie that ISNT a comic book movie. Yet it has early roles from Chris Evans and Djimon Hounsou of later MCU fame, plus many other familiar faces. The premise is that superheroes exist as telekinetics, each occupying a niche. There are those who can manipulate physical force, those who see vague glimpses of the future, "sniffers" who can see a limited past based on objects they've touched, etc. The most badass are the ones who can implant thoughts into others heads ("pushers"). Nobody can do it all and be a superman, which I thought is cool.
The Hong Kong backdrop leads to some amazingly beautiful exposition scenes and action set pieces, and EVERYTHING is filmed on location, no studios. Its an absolutely beautiful movie and the pacing is great, with a mystery/thriller story at the heart. Towards the end the story unravels a bit and makes less sense, but seeing the various "specialists" come together to use their specific powers in turn is cool, and every single damn scene is beautiful. The momentum of the story doesn't let up either, even when the plot runs thin.
If youre looking for a visually stunning, stylish superhero thriller that's NOT a comic book movie, with a distinct eastern setting and plenty of cool superhero effects, I think you can't go wrong as long as you forgive a bit of wonky storytelling. The director also did lucky number slevin and gangster no 1 so that'll give you an idea of the style.
Absolutely love "Push"

Epic environmentalist post-apocalyptic parable. Even if you dont typically like these type of animated movies, you owe it to yourself to check it out. 37 years old this year. (Dont Google the trailer its stupid)

Re: Name a movie that you recently enjoyed
Outside the Wire with Anthony Mackie was pretty decent for a B-Grade action flick. I had to laugh when I heard his character called "Cap" and then he said "I can do this all day". I don't mind B-grade (or any grade) movies if there is enough action, gun fire and car chases. This movie had plenty of the first two criteria. I can even put up with over dubbed voices and bad acting if there's enough action.
