At first glance, I almost skipped past this one. But a little digging and this is a pretty legit campaign, considering their pieces tend to run in the four figures and up. Also when you take account the bio listed from the brand owner, Roger Zarzoso:

He has been a watchmaker since 1984 and worked for the biggest Swiss watch brands
- Prototype creation of minute repeater for RPC (Renaud Papi Claret)
- Rolex Daytona chronograph development and assembly
- Chief of a complications workshop
- Chief of watches restoration for Ulysse Nardin.
- He revived the brand Antoine Tavan 1805 in 2008

Antone Tavan 1805 has launched their first Kickstarter for their latest model, the montre Jour/Nuit, aka Day/Night Watch.


There are a few tiers of pricing, depending on what you want.
Kickstarter pricing for a Day/Night watch with just the pin buckle leather strap is about $754
Pricing for a Day/Night watch with a custom engraved rotor and a butterfly leather strap is about $854
Pricing for a Day/Night watch with a custom engraved rotor and two leather straps is about $904
Pricing for a Day/Night watch with a custom engraved rotor, two leather straps, AND early delivery is about $1,005

Estimated delivery is March 2020
Early delivery option is listed as January 2020









Here's what you get with the Jour/Nuit aka Day/Night Watch:
- It is entirely designed and manufactured in the Antoine Tavan workshop in Le Locle.
- It utilizes an ETA 2824-2 automatic movement modified by Roger to display a 24 hours indication.
- The dial has been crafted from copper, with enamel.
- The dial contains two half circles that are engraved in relief each representing a unique half of the 24 hours day. The upper-scale indicates the daylight hours (from 6 AM/6hr to 6:00 PM/18h) and the other, lower scale indicates the evening hours (from 6:00 PM/18hr to 6:00 AM/6hr).
- The hour hand features a sun on one end and a moon on the other to indicate which half-circle arch is the correct time.
- The 3 steel hands are laser cut and polished by hand.
- There is an opportunity to personalize and engrave a part of the rotor oscillating weight.

Doing more research on the brand, I read on Antoine Tavan's instagram that someone mentioned a similar Cartier model to the AT watch.
That would be the Cartier Pasha Jour et Nuit made for Cartier by Svend Andersen.

On the Andersen Geneve site, they go more into the history.
The Jour et Nuit started off an a one off piece, which Cartier then commissioned Andersen to produce 125 for their Pasha collection in 1998.
After that run of Cartier watches, Andersen produced their own line of GRANDE JOUR ET NUIT using the Frederic Piguet 15” movement.
They produced a final run with the last of the Piguet movements they were able to acquire and retail prices started out at $59,600

Couldn't find more information about the background for this piece, but Maurice Lacroix also made their own Masterpiece Jour et Nuit with a single arc. But appears it was also produced after the Cartier watches. And these had a retail price of $4,200




Definitely appears the Jour/Nuit has cues taken from the Andersen design and quite possibly the Maurice Lacroix too.
But considering the amount of hand assembly involved and still getting a price point below $1K, the Antoine Tavan is an amazing deal.
And a beautiful watch in its own right.

Even though the Kickstarter is still live (and so far fully funded), Antoine Tavan has added all the Jour/Nuit watches for sale on their website.

It isn't stated (unless the Google Translate isn't catching it), but I imagine the delivery timeline would be the same as the KS campaign.
