Fuel Sniffers Anonymous (The Thread For Car Nuts)
Re: Fuel Sniffers Anonymous (The Thread For Car Nuts)
Not sure if I posted this. I’ve seen a lot of crazy things at VIR -
1) A Dodge Viper barrel roll the uphill esses. Car destroyed, driver walked.
2) GM testing a future ZR1 mule. Just looked like a blue Z06 but the engine sounded different.
3) Car hauler with a new Ford GT dropping off for testing.
4) Instructor lecturing us about cold tire, cold track - take it easy! And then looping his Z06 into pit wall on his out lap.
All tough days. Ezra Dyer driving a Kia Stinger test car lost control in the uphill esses and slammed the tire wall. This wasn’t great and could’ve been MUCH worse. The pic is from my car driving by him in the pits. If you look close you can see the paint flaking off the wrinkled body.

Stumbled across this video. It was just fun to watch and I admire how well his garage is kitted out.

Garage door mod, but digging this guy's in-home car elevator so he packs two cars in one side. Personally interested in modding my garage door so it gets completely out of the way when it's open so I have clearance for a taller rig.
Video still showing his lift and completed mod:

Stumbled across Iowahawk's car ID service. I got there by way of this interesting article of his on cruising.

Wow, I found a topic about cars here too, do not think that I am a girl and do not know anything in terms of cars. On the contrary, I know a lot about cars, oddly enough)

VIR bound April 27-30th. God I love that place. Dealer charges $1,200 for track prep……thankfully I can do everything myself.
- Install G-LOC racing pads (way thicker than OEM)
- Bled brakes with Castrol SRF
- Install racing wheels and tires / Apex 18” with Nankang AR-1 315F/335R
- Change oil (10 quarts) / filter
- Installed numbers
- Installed tow hook
Here’s a drone view of the track. 160mph front straight and 170mph back straight……..good times.

Those are some serious brake pads!!!! Those wheels are SICK! Pics like this get me motivated to get the old chevy cruiser operational again.CVP33 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 5:20 pm VIR bound April 27-30th. God I love that place. Re: Fuel Sniffers Anonymous (The Thread For Car Nuts)
A friend and I were reflecting awhile back about how when we were kids it was no big deal to ride in the back of a pickup truck. You don't see that anymore. Seems like kids today need swaddled in a five-point harness and helmet, surrounded by airbags and collision monitoring systems just to go to the park. We speculated whether it's a symptom of "what's wrong with the world these days" (lol). But today on my dog walk what do I see: a couple kids climbing into the back of a pickup to go home from the park. Maybe things will turn out okay after all.

In many places, it's not legal anymore.BostonCharlie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:36 pm A friend and I were reflecting awhile back about how when we were kids it was no big deal to ride in the back of a pickup truck. I brought riding in the back of a truck up with a Minnesota State Trooper once. They said Minnesota has no restrictions on riding in the back of trucks.

Hopefully that means they believe Minnesotans have good judgment. There was a local character where I grew up who was well known for having been the only survivor of a car wreck because he was in the bed of the pickup -- he was thrown to safety and walked away. Not saying to go try this at home. Just one of those stories.MoT wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:56 pmIn many places, it's not legal anymore.BostonCharlie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:36 pm A friend and I were reflecting awhile back about how when we were kids it was no big deal to ride in the back of a pickup truck. OTOH, maybe back in the 80's the inside of the pickup was more dangerous than the outside, lol. This recent video of the IIHS crash testing a pickup with a heavy load in the bed is eye-opening. This still shows the load completely crushing the interior of the double cab.
They don't show the test until 2:50:

Semi-related, both my sons and my wife know how to drive a manual. Becoming a lost art.

Manual transmission is a modern day theft deterrent b/c most people can't drive them.

On my 1970 VW bus with its drum brakes, strategic downshifting was necessary to prevent overheating the brakes on those California hills. I had so much fun driving that thing. I wonder if there's a hole in my life that can only be filled by a suitable replacement. On Bring A Trailer I sometimes see BMW Z3s that look affordable enough to be fun.
