I will be impressed if anyone can beat this.

Gonna need movement confirmation on this one since there are no pics. Anyone care to take the plunge?
I won’t lie, I am just about $8.59 curious about what this could possibly be.

I sent the seller a request for a movement pic.
Be sure to report back. Since it’s my thread I feel almost obligated to buy a couple of the cheapest ones that are posted.

In the ebay listing quartz is listed as the movement, the model numer matches this automatic watch on Ali..

Great detective work. Sad trombone sound. I will disqualify that one too.

OK, the cheapest is back to $13 and change then?

Interesting that so many of the contenders are skeleton watches... Saving money by omitting the dial?

This one is difficult, mostly because apparently people (either sellers or their targeted customers) do not know what "automatic" means! There are dozens on ebay that say "automatic" but are actually mechanical or even straight up quartz.

I debated whether I should have made it an automatic challenge or open it up to all mechanical watches. Maybe hand winders deserve a separate thread?

OK, Amazon. $12.99 before shipping. It has a rotor and everything.

Tell me about it. The worst ones are the ones that say Automatic on the dial. That bugs me because they are preying on people that don’t know any better.

This is the cheapest I can find that is verifiably automatic, i.e. with a rotor I can see. A lot of listings say "automatic" but I think they are mechanical.

For instance I think @Sporkboy's entry is a manual wind, unless I'm missing something:

This one looks like a Winner...

I may not buy one of these watches, but I will darn sure from now on keep my chains slim and simple.

What is that dial above 6:00? Power reserve? Surely it’s not a second hand because it already has one of those.

Look closely at this $5.99 abomination. Those aren’t even actual gears, just gear-like die cuts in the dial face. 99.9% chance this is a quartz watch.

Good question. The small red hand appears to rotate, but the two scales are confusing. They seem to be in minutes, but for what purpose?

Some of the eBay listings kill me. This one is no exception. They print 300M on the dial, "water resistant" on the case back, and in the specs? "Not Water Resistant". :D

I... don't know. I agree it can't be second hand or date because it already has those. Is it even possible for a $15 watch to have a (retrograde?) power reserve???

Thick chains are a turn-off, but skulls on your watch dial are A-OK!

$2 plus $2 shipping. Pictures show a rotor and it is not completely hideous. I am guessing that no watch shows up at this price, but I am $4 curious, so we’ll see if I get anything.

As you can tell, I kind of got involved in this challenge. I am honestly quitting looking for these now. I had $4 worth of entertainment on this challenge, so if a watch shows up, it will be a pleasant surprise.
