I recently bought a watch with the same movement, and it's useless. The only way I could hear it was to hold it up to my ear in a quiet room.

I have owned a dozen different mechanical alarm watches. If you want one you can hear, unfortunately you have to pay.

If you want an alarm you can actually hear, buy this Vulcain from our friends at Closer. $1500 sounds like a steal. Most decent alarm watches are $2-4k at least, even used.
